Description
The Anatolian Loofah is not the bleached, chemical-treated loofah you’ve seen in drugstores. It is a naturally dried section of Luffa aegyptiaca — a gourd grown in the fertile Aegean coastal farms of western Turkey. At peak maturity, the outer skin is removed and the fibrous interior is dried in open air, creating the dense exfoliating matrix inside. Unbleached, untreated, and 100% biodegradable. In the Turkish hammam tradition, the loofah serves as the daily maintenance tool between kese sessions — gentle enough for use three or four times per week, and naturally antimicrobial due to its open-fiber structure which dries rapidly between uses.
Material & Origin
100% natural Luffa aegyptiaca. Grown and processed in Turkey’s Aegean coastal region. No bleach, no chemicals, no synthetics. Dimensions approximately 12cm × 8cm. Weight varies per natural loofah (approx. 30–45g). Color: natural tan/beige.
The Ritual
Saturate with warm water before use — the loofah softens significantly when wet. Apply soap or body wash and lather directly on the loofah. Use in circular motions with moderate pressure. Rinse thoroughly after each use and hang in a ventilated area to dry. Replace every 3–4 weeks for maximum hygiene. At end of life, it composts completely within 30 days.
